It is not very often in the Western world that we see or encounter
people who have lost everything they had – but this is exactly what
happened in the Philippines in 2006 when disaster stuck. Three super
typhoons hit the village surrounding the Mission House just after it
opened, causing extreme damage and devastation to the locals.
The villagers lived in poorly constructed homes which could not stand
severe weather, let alone a typhoon, and as such the houses and all the
possessions were washed away when they were hit. Families moved from house to house as they watched their homes
collapsing before their eyes. The shelter of the houses soon
disappeared as all the homes in the village, except one, were
destroyed. Families were left destitute.
ministries without borders answered the urgent call for help. The
money received helped to build houses, buy clothes, food and
utensils for the families who lost everything. Children who had no
clothing and were dressed in dirty rags, were re-clothed in clean,
new clothing when the aid arrived.
"One man’s good deed is another man’s miracle…" Keri Jones
ministries without borders financially helped in an area that had no
pure water. Through this help a well was sunk which met the needs not
of just one or two, but of everybody in the whole village.
- 720 families were helped to receive the most needed things.
- Over 50 homes were rebuilt for people.
- A whole village has been rebuilt (on the island of Mendoro) for the 28
families who live there. Lives have been changed and people have
received salvation because of people’s giving and generosity.
"People have been completely changed because of the love of God shown to them and the gospel preached along side those good deeds. That’s what Jesus said; “The Church is to be a city on a hill that can’t be hidden” and as they see what we are doing for them, and they hear the good news about the love of God, their lives are changed and people are coming into the Kingdom of God. We are just giving glory to God for what he is doing." Noralv Askeland
